As the year draws to a close, we’re taking a moment to reflect on what has been an energising and momentum-filled 2025 for biotope. Our 8th basecamp is still in full swing, and earlier this month we welcomed 11 exciting early-stage companies to Ghent for an intensive week of workshops, mentoring, and community-building. With this cohort now in motion, we’re gearing up to make our next 2–3 investments in the coming months.

How is it already that time again?
The in-person part of our 8th biotope basecamp took place this December in an iconic Ghent venue. Over four fast-paced days, we worked closely with an exceptional group of founders building bold solutions in planetary health, biotech, and regenerative systems.

🔥 Portfolio Highlights
Elaniti: unveiled their flagship SoilDiagnostics product at World Agritech - a decision support tool for farmers & agronomists using their foundational models.
Typcal: opened Latin America’s first large-scale mycelium fermentation facility allowing them to produce in a 5000L fermenter - a major step toward industrial production.
Shelfion: secured additional pre-seed funding from Rockstart and Seedr Fund, strengthening momentum ahead of a future seed round.

✨ 2025 Highlights
2025 was a year of strong growth, new partnerships, and an expanding community of founders committed to planetary health.
Portfolio growth: Invested in 6 new companies: Landman.Bio, Elaniti, AgroGrINtech, Typcal, BugBiome, and B-Cos.
Team expansion: Welcomed Ilana as our new Stakeholder Manager.
Community & investors: Hosted a highly successful investor event, bringing together investors & startups from across the ecosystem.
The Fundraising Mirage: Released a whitepaper with PINC and BII addressing the funding gap that currently exists between investors & founders, and suggested steps on how to address it.
Recognition: Named one of Europe’s leading startup hubs by the Financial Times.
As we wrap up the year, we want to thank everyone who has supported biotope - our mentors, investors, partners, and especially our founders.
